About US

WHO WE ARE

Phi Gamma Delta is an organization of gentlemen who share similar values and strive to be the best that they can be. Our fraternity was founded on the values of Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality, and Excellence. These values guide us in our mission to unite men in enduring friendships, to stimulate the pursuit of knowledge, and to build courageous leaders who serve the world with the best that is in them.

As we are first and foremost at Northeastern to study and excel in our scholastic pursuits, we always aim to boost each other up and aid each other in our studies by pairing people with tutors within the fraternity, as well as scheduling frequent study rooms around campus. Our cumulative GPA is currently a 3.53, placing us above the Northeastern Average IFC GPA, Average Fraternity GPA, and Average Male GPA.

We also emphasize campus involvement and encourage every brother to get involved with at least one other organization on campus. Our influence on campus comes from our active participation in extra-curriculars ranging from political clubs, music groups, club sports, and more.

In Phi Gamma Delta, every brother contributes in defining what our fraternity stands for. Our legacy will be the what me make it, and will reflect the effort we put into building our organization to be an example of everything great that a fraternity can be. This chapter is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication put in by our founding fathers to create something truly special. If you're interested in Greek life and are looking to make an impact as a courageous leader, FIJI just might be the fraternity for you.

History

The fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta was founded on May 1, 1848, at Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. We hold our letters as sacred; therefore, we limit the number of places where they can be displayed. We are commonly referred to as FIJI and use that nickname, or Phi Gam, in most places rather than our Greek letters. We have 160+ chapters in the US and Canada and have initiated more than 180,000 brothers since 1848.

At Northeastern, our history is both brief and exciting. In the Spring of 2017, two Graduate Brothers of Phi Gamma Delta, Joshua Cox and Colin Treanor, visited Northeastern University to begin the process of colonization. A colony functions similarly to a fully-fledged chapter, by recruiting new brothers, hosting philanthropy and service events, and promoting our values. We worked tirelessly to prove our dedication to the ideals of Phi Gamma Delta and petitioned to receive our charter at the Dallas Ekklesia in the Summer of 2018. That Fall, we officially became the Nu Eta Chapter, achieving full recognition just a year and a half after our colonization.

Since receiving our charter, the Nu Eta Chapter has grown significantly in both size and impact. In 2024, we achieved a chapter GPA of 3.53, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence. Our membership has grown by over 22% over the past year, now totaling 83 brothers. In 2024, collectively, we have completed more than 1,475 hours of community service with organizations like the B+ Foundation, Shamrock Foundation, Muddy Water River Cleanup, and Wright Locke Farm. Our philanthropic efforts raised $4,750 for various causes, including Rosie’s Place, the Jed Foundation, and UNICEF. Additionally, we have continued to strengthen our brotherhood through events such as intramural sports and impactful initiatives like our SMILES mental health seminars.

Our chapter remains dedicated to fostering academic success, community service, and brotherhood, living out the values of Phi Gamma Delta every day. Pictured below are most of the pledge classes we have initiated since our founding Alpha class. We are proud of what we have accomplished and excited to continue building our legacy at Northeastern and beyond.

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
- Calvin Coolidge, FIJI Amherst 1895

BROTHERHOOD

In FIJI, one of our core values is Friendship, "the sweetest influence." Friendship leads us to establish genuine, authentic relationships both with brothers within the fraternity and in the university as a whole. To foster friendship within our fraternity, our brotherhood chairs put on events for brothers to attend at least once a week. Brotherhood events can range anywhere from nights out on the town getting dinner, to barbecues, to paintball, ski trips, camping trips and anywhere in between. Brotherhood, however, is more than hanging out with each other - it's about showing up to support one another, trusting each other, and challenging each other to always be the best individuals we can be.

PHILANTHROPY

We hold philanthropy events to raise money and support for a variety of causes, including the United Services Organization, Donate Life America, and Youth Enrichment Services. Each year, we participate in Northeastern's Relay For Life to support the American Cancer Society, raising a total of $25,558 across two years. Recently, in 2024, we collectively raised $4,750 for various causes through events such as our inaugural Music for the Heart, which raised over $1,000 for the Jed Foundation to support teen mental health, and Carving for a Cause, which raised $1,000 for Rosie’s Place, a Boston Women’s Shelter. We also supported UNICEF and hurricane relief efforts through chapter initiatives. Our ongoing dedication includes participation in Northeastern’s Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

As we say in FIJI, service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on Earth. We have the ability, the opportunity, and the duty to serve our fellow human beings - our reward is the satisfaction that comes from that service. Throughout the year, we partner with groups on campus and other Greek organizations to give ourselves every opportunity we can to give back to the community we live in.
